Stringing Frequency

“How often should I restring my racket?”

One of tennis’ life long questions! We recommend at least 4 times a year

“Why 4 times a year and not 2?”

6 months is a long time to go between restrings. With the lost of tension, fluctuating temperatures and wet weather your strings have to put up.

We have decided that 4 is a nice middle ground between cost and performance – of course more often is always better!

“Can you break that answer down more for us?”

The two major stringing times are the start of summer and the start of winter. We see those as the 2 most important times to get your racket restrung due to the changes in temperature.

Reasons for the mid summer / mid winter restrings:

Mid Summer

  • Playing lots more tennis – hopefully!
  • Leaving your racket in hot places e.g. cars, direct sunlight, home (temp changes)
  • Fluctuation with day time and evening temps

Mid Winter

  • Putting your racket in heated rooms, next to radiators and in your car (temp changes)
  • Wet tennis balls – Heavier ball being hit!
  • Not drying your strings after playing – moisture is a string killer (synthetic gut/multifilament/natural gut effected most)

“Last question, why do you say 4 times a year Minimum?”

Strings are always losing tension, even immediately after stringing your racket, your strings will have started losing tension. We say 4 times a year minimum, as really your racket should be restrung a lot more often. The strings are always losing tension, and although completely normal, your chosen playing characteristic will change the longer the strings are left in the racket. Therefore your technique will change to compensate.

Wouldn’t you want to play with freshly strung racket every time you play? I know I certainly would!
